PIRATE AIR FORCE
Five Hundred Picked Men Five hundred-picked men. fully organised and trained, have been handed together into a private air force within six months by an ex-R.A.F. officer. The leader is Mr. Raymond Gordon, known as the Group Captain and President of the force—the British Flying Corps—whose headquarters are in Peckham Road, London, S.E. Six months • ago he announced rhe formation of the group. He then had only a few dozen members, but to-day he controls a uniformed body of 500. “My main object in forming the corps is to enable the many British air enthusiasts of moderate means to become proficient pilots at a low cost,” he told a “Sunday Chronicle” correspondent. “Although the plan is of a nonaggressive nature, such a body of trained airmen will be invaluable in the event of a national emergency. All our men arc prepared to serve their country if called upon.” Engineers, salesmen, motor drivers, architects—men of all types are to be found in the ranks. At week-ends practical Hying instruction is given at the corps aerodrome.
