City Officers’ Salaries
Sir.—ln to-day’s issue of “The Dominion” there appears a statement furnished by the Wellington Ratepayer's’ Association regarding salaries paid to certain City Council officers. It was stated that the city solicitor has a higher salary than the Solicitor-General; that, the town clerk has a higher -salary than the Public Trustee; that the city valuer has a highersalary than the Valuer-General of the Dominion ; and that the city engineer has a higher salary than the Engineer-in-Chief. who is also under-secretary, marine-engineer, and chairman of the Main Highways Board. This is a most astonishing statement; in fact, it is hardly credible, but, coming as it does from the Ratepayers’ Association, it may be taken as being correct, otherwise you would not have published it. Would' it be in order if the Ratepayers’ Association were to publish a comparative table, showing the actual salaries received, in all cases? This should make very interesting reading.—l am, etC " INQUIRER. Wellington, January 31.
