Swimming in Australia 100 YARDS CHAMPIONSHIP (Received January 31, 1.32 a.m.) Brisbane, January 30. Tlie Olympic representative, Miss Francis Bult. finished brilliantly to beat Miss Joyce Cooper and retain her title in the 100 yards.women’s free-style on the concluding night of the swimming championships. Miss Bult’s time clipped 3 2-5 seconds off Miss Rita Smith’s Queensland record. Witt came to light in the last event of the championship programme to win a title for Queensland, winning the 440 yards after a thrilling race with Crawford. Points in the Keiran Shield interstate contest for men were: Victoria 3. Queensland ami West Australia 1 each. For the Corbett Shield for women. New South Wales scored 3 and Victoria 1. These contests continue in Sydney. In a handicap event. Miss Clare Dennis equalled her own Australian record of 1.16 4-5 for the 100 yards breaststroke.
