PLOT IN JAVA

Rumours of Eastern “Sarajevo” ALLENBY MYSTERY Reported Effort to Start War in Pacific SECRET CHANGE OF PLANS By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received January 30, 7.50 p.m.) •Singapore. January 30. Sensational rumours are current in Singapore that Lord Allenby was to be the victim of an Eastern "Sarajevo” plot to start a war in the Pacific. Although discounted at the time, these now seem to have been founded on fact. Lord Allenby’s movements have been a mystery since he hurried through Singapore bound for Java on the evening of January 5, intending to visit Bali and return to attend Rotary an-l ex-servicemen’s functions at Singapore. Later it was rumoured locally that' he had flown secretly to Singapore to participate in the naval conference, but apparently Lord Allenby flew secretly to Sumatra and caught a ship homeward on January 13, explaining tex Singapore that it was necessary ro cancel his arrangements for urgent reasons. The latter proved to be the discovery at Java of a plot'in which three non-Dutch subjects were involved to kill Lord Allenby. Police received descriptions of, the plotters and took the necessary steps, but Lord Allenby, realising that he would be incessantly shadowed, changed bis plans and made a fictitious booking to fly to Singapore.
