Native Rate Collection Feilding, December 15. An appeal from, the Waiapu Cotinty Council for the support of local bodies in obtaining legislation on the question of collecting Native rates was received at yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council. The council agreed to support the county’s proposals. The "Waiapu County Council claimed that the collection of Native rates should be placed on the same basis as the collection of the rates of Europeans. NEW SCHOOL WANTED Makerua District Proposal Palmerston North, December 15. The proposal to establish a new school at Makerua was advanced- a further stage last night when it was decided, to approach the Wellington Education Board. A committee was set up with Mr. R. Southee as chairman and Mr. D. G. Yule as secretary. It was reported that there would be 52 children available for the new school. REARING OF CALVES Club Competition Judged Woodville, December 14. The entries in the Woodville group of the Southern Hawke’s Bay Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club's calf-rearing competition have been judged. The dairy condition championship wris won by Jessie Bridges (Kumeroa) and the dairy type championship by Phyllis Golder (PgpatliwaJ. The results are as follow:— Kumeroa Dairy condition : Allan Johnson, 1-; Jessie Bridges, 2. Dairy type: Colin O’Hagan, 1; Herbert- Last, Hopelands.—Dairy condition : Patrick O’Neil, 1; Maurice O'Neil, 2. Dairy type: Patrick O’bteil. 1; John Clark, 2. L’apatawa.—Dairy condition: L.
