LIFEJACKET TESTED

Capsize in Evans Bay Consequent upon a recent yachting accident in the harbour in which a young man lost his life, inquiries have been made by Captain W. J. Keane, commodore of the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Club, with a view to obtaining, a suitable life jacket, from the point of view both of expense and utlity. for yachtsmen to wear when sailing. A specimen jacket of oilskin and kapoe has been manufactured by a city firm, and on Saturday afternoon in Evant Bay one of the crew of the Rona-Jellicoe boat, Idono, wore it in case it might be put to the test. It was not long before the jacket was given a chance to prove its worth, for Idono, running down the bay with a hard following wind, capsized near the eastern shore. All four aboard were thrown into the sea. and the man with the life jacket found that he was well sustained in the choppy sea. Even if a test had been arranged, it could not have served its purpose better.
