CONFERENCE FAILS
South African Mine Strike Johannesburg, December 1. All attempts to settle the strike at the New State Areas mine have failed. A conference between the Chamber of Mines and the Mine Workers’ Union proved abortive. The situation is now likely to become unpleasant, since the mine management has- informed the strikers that they will be dismissed unless they return to work. Only five men so fathave rcsimed. The others are collecting funds to continue the strike.
