Miramar Chib’s Closing Day WARD CUP AT HERETAUNGA Ideal weather prevailed for golfers over the week-end, the outstanding events of which were the close of the Miramar season and the Ward Cup competition at Hcretaunga. Miramar Club There was a large attendance at the Miramar links for the closing day on Saturday. The prizes won during the season were presented by Mrs. Mabiu, the president’s wife, as follow: — Opening day, Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Ward; senior championship, J. H. Drake, D. S. Wellington Club A fourball men’s handicap for the Ward Cup was played by the Wellington club on the Heretaunga links on Saturday afternoon. It was won by Captain Sinclair-Thomson and W. E. C. Gregory, who finished 6 up. Next in order came J. B. Parker and M. Paulin, 5 up; V, G. Ward aud E. A. Mills, 4 up; A. de B. Brandon and G. H. Swan, 5 up; R. B. Smith and S. A. L. Hunt, 4 up; R. V. Addison and H. I. Thodey, 3 up: J. D. G. Duncan and D. O. Whyte, 3 up. The weekly bogey competition was won by E. Webb, who finished 1 up. A friendly match between A. D. S. Duncan and D. O. Whyte (Wellington) and M. Moore and J. F. Pym (Titahi) was played on the Heretaunga links yesterday, the players finishing all square. The Wellington pair finished the morning round 2 up, but the Titahi players managed to square the match in the afternoon. Whyte did a 70 in the morning and 74 in the afternoon, while Duncan covered the course in 75 and 74. Moore did two 70’s, and Pym took 75 and 74. I’. G. Whitcombe followed up his consistent form by defeating J. W. Ward by 6 and 5 in the Wellington Club’s championship competition. Whitcombe did even 4’s in the morning round to lead by 6 up, and went, on strongly in the afternoon to maintain this lead, and win by 6 and 5. ' - The Wellington club will play the third medal round of the season on Saturday. Manor Park Club A special challenge match between J. L. Black (Shandon) and J. Burns (Manor Park) and J. D. Mclntosh (professional) and A. S. T. Butler (Manor Park), played on the Manor Park links on Saturday, resulted in a win for Black and Burns by 3 up and 2to go. Black covered the course in 72, and Mclntosh in 75. The best cards returned in the Summer Cup competition were:—Mrs. Jackson (handicap 33), 67; A. Radford (10), 70; Mrs. S. Brickmau (36), 70; Mrs. A. Radford (36), 72; Miss Bray (17), 72; J. Burns (10), 72; J. L. Barnard (12), 73; H. Payne (IS), 73; F. Page (5), 75; C. Ronberg (12), 76; E. Rogers (14), 7G. A fourball bogey competition resulted in a win for J. L. Barnard and D. Butler, who finished 7 up. A bogey competition resulted in a tie between R. A. Rawlinson (11) and G. Cook (11), who both finished 3 up, The next best performers ■. were D. J. F. White. 1 up, and R. V. McDowell, all square. A fourball bogey competition was won by P. J. R. Fordham (10) and RH. Rawlinson (ID, 7 up. The next best scorers were: S. Hogg (4) and F. Cooper (17) and Miss E. Ballinger (10) and G. D. Patrick (14), 6 up” • A thrill was given when D. J. F. White holed out in one at the third bole (180 yards). He held a reception later at the nineteenth hole. “Dominion” Cup The inaugural match for “The Dominion” Cup. which is to be played for annually between members of “The Dominion” staff and n team representing “Dominion” tenants, was played on the Manor Park links yesterday, and resulted in the tenants lifting the handsome trophy by games to 3f. The following are the results, the tenants’ names being mentioned first: — P. D. Daniell beat R. Imlhani. 4 and 8. K. .M. Doughty lost to .1. Edgar, 7 ahid 5. D. Codv and G. S. McNair, all square. b. A stroke competition in the afternoon was won bv P. D. Daniell with the good card of 77-11-71. He went out in 38. and returned in 39. 11. R. Sellers came next, with 87-14-73. Shandon Club A medal competition on the Shandon links on Saturday was won by J. F. Taylor, with a card reading 80-12-68. The next best scorers were: R. G. Hayward, 74-4-70; C. E. Stewart. 92-20-72; W. R. Stuckey, 81-8-73. A bogey competition resulted in a tie between l\. 'l’oomath and A. T. Clelland, who both finished all square. A fourball best-ball bogey competition was won. by C. M. Boyd and A. T. Clclland, who finished 7 up. Next Sunday the Misses Kay and Gaisford field day will be bold, and will be open to all golfers.
