TENNIS TOURS
Conduct and Gate Charges
“Oiie of the main desires of the management' committee is that vye wish overseas players to go away feeling perfectly satisfied with their tour,” said Mr. A. G. Henderson at Thursday night’s meeting of the council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, when moving the adoption of the quarterly report. “If they do that they act as ambassadors in other countries. The management committee hits been very careful indeed not to let them play too often or to give them too much travelling in order that in the future we may get .teams easily.” So far as the charges for the matches were concerned, said Mr. Henderson, the management committee liked to keep them low so that, as many people as possible could see the play. But unfortunately there were very heavy commitments to be met. The cost of a touring team to-day was very much in excess of what it was a few years ago, and it was necessary to go very carefully into the accounts.
Players from other countries nowadays required big allowances, and travelling expenses were very large. It was necessary to base charges on a rather higher level than the management committee liked, but delegates could rest assured that these charges always received very serious consideration.
