TRAMWAY BOARD
— Christchurch Elections LABOUR MAY GAIN CONTROL By Telegraph.—Press Association, Christchurch. November 30. The Tramway Board elections were held to-day, when there was a rather larger poll than usual. The counting is not. yet completed and will not be completed before midnight. Present indications are either that. Labour will have a majority on the board or that the new board will consist of four Citizens” Association members, four Labour members, and one Independent. In the Spreydon-Adding-ton area Mr. E. J. Howard, M.P., was elected by an overwhelming majority. For Riccarton-Fendaltou a badly-split vote allowed Labour to win the seat. Avon-Brighton was won by Mr. W. .T. Walter, Independent, and Hills-Sum-ner by Mrs. McCombs by a narrow majority over Mr. W. .1. Sim. In the .central district, where there are five seats, Rev. J. K. Archer leads by several hundreds. Following him in close order are five Citizens’ Association candidates and three Labour candidates, but the best that the citizens’ candidates can hope for is to retain four members.
