ANOTHER VICTIM

The X-Ray Martyrs

Another name has been, added to the list of X-ray martyrs with the death of Dr. William Hope Fowler, of Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. It was only recently that the King conferred the C.V.O. upon him at Buckingham Palace and congratulated him on his selfless devotion to his work.

X-rays are now well under medical control, but toll is still being taken from among those who venture unprotected into the ranks of the pioneers of the treatment, and no fewer than 50 scientists have met their deaths*- as the results of their labours in this field since Professor Rontgen published tiis researches in 1806. Among them was Sir Archibald Reid, of St. Thomas’s Hospital, London, and Mr. Alfred Smith, of Coventry, who underwent 17 operations in less than five years. — Reuter. Special to “The Dominion.”
