LADY PARR’S FUNERAL
Many Tributes Received MESSAGES FROM OVERSEAS Dominion Special Service. Auckland, November 7. Evidence of the esteem in which the late Lady Parr, wife of Sir James Parr, was held by the community was given at her funeral. A large number of prominent jieople attended, both in a private capacity and as representatives of a diverse range of organisations. In view of the untiring work of Lady Parr, which fell to her lot as the wife of one of New Zealand’s leading public men, it was inevitable that there should be such widespread regret at her death And that tributes should be forthcoming not only from a host of personal friends but also from national and civic bodies throughout the Dominion. About 1000 messages of condolence were received, including a large number of cablegrams from overseas. The service was conducted by the Rev. R. L. Connolly, of St. Aidan’s Church. Remuera, and was held at Sir James Parr's residence in Victoria Avenue this afternoon, after which the casket was conveyed to the Purewa Cemetery, where Mr. Connolly conducted the last rites. The cortege was headed by several motor-cars laden with flowers. A long line of motor-cars followed. Among the many floral tributes were wreaths from the following: The GovernorGeneral. Lord Bledisloe. and Lady Bledisloe, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, and Mrs. Forbes, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and Mrs. Coates, Sir Francis Bell and Lady Bell, the Speaker, members and staff of the Legislative Council, the Government Railways Board, the Mayor, council, and citizens of Auckland.
