Conciliation Council Case AMENDED AWARD WANTED Under the presidency -of Mr. P. Hally, a sitting of the Conciliation Council was held yesterday to consider an application made by tbe New. Zealand Theatrical Proprietors’ and Managers* Industrial Union of Employers for a modification of the present award relating to the wages and general conditions of employment of the workers engaged in that industry. The New Zealand Federated Theatrical and' 1 Places of Amusement Industrial Asso-. elation of 'Workers was cited as respondent. The employers’ assessors were Messrs, H. Stringer, R. Shepard,: W. Burton, and W. J. Mountjoy, and those of the union were Messrs, R. Pearson, J. B. Holmes, C. Strong and B. Ashby. Clauses in the dispute engaged the attention of the council up to 1 p.m., it being found that in a number of Instances very little difference of opinion existed between the respective parties. ~ , -L The weekly wages sought by the applicants were as follow (the counterclaims being set out in parentheses) • First mechanist, £5/5/- (touring. £7 17/6, resident £6/2/6) ; second meehanist, £4/5/- (touring £7/2/6, resident £5/7/6) ; other mechanists, £4/4/(touring £6/12/6) ; flyman, £4/4/- (£6 12/6) : first property man, £4/lb/(louring £7/7/6, resident £5/12/6).; second property man, £4/4/- (touring £6/12/6,'resident £4/17/6); first.electrician, £4/16/- (touring £7/7/-); second electrician, £4/4/- (touring £6 12/6); other electricians, £3/15/- ( touring £6/2/6); other lighting hands, £3/15/- (£4/12/6); wardrobe master, £3/10/- (touring £5/17/6, resident. £4 12/6) ; wardrobe mistress, £3 (touring £5/7/6, resident £4/2/6); stage doorkeeper, £3 (£4/2/6) ; stage hands, all performances, £3/5/- (£4/7/6). The matter of wages was considered important as is disclosed by the disparity siiown. This and. other clauses dealing with overtime and other rates were taken in committee during the afternoon. The hearing is not expected to conclude until late this afternoon.
