FREE KINDERGARTEN

Meeting of Council Held The Wellington Free Kindergarten Council met recently, Mrs. H. E. Gibbs presiding. Owing to tlie return of Miss Wilson, principal of the Free Kindergarten Association, and Miss Edna Scott, the Carnegie Fellowship holder, at the beginning of 1934, it was decided to postpone the Graduation Party usually held in November and combine it with an official welcome to Miss Wilson and Miss Scott in February. Final arrangements were' discussed for tiro end of the year effort. The council afternoon to be held at the home of Mrs. H. E. Gibbs, promises to be successful in every way. Mrs- Peacock, president of the Women’s Auxiliary, reported that members of that committee had met during the month, and were taking responsibility for the cake stall. Mrs. Gray Young had been appointed as delegate from the auxiliary to the council. During 1934 the various kindergartens will be staffed as follows: Taranaki Street, Miss Edna Scott, director, with Miss Ruth Gower and Miss Gwen Fraser as assistants; Wellington South, Miss N. Ramsay, director, with Miss D. Price as assistant; Newtown, Miss S. Hamilton, director, with Miss Joyce Harris as assistant; Berhampore, Miss Holland, director; Brooklyn, Miss' M. Preshaw, director; Ngaio, Miss M. Seed, director, with Miss M. Thompson as assistant; retone, Miss Eva Scaife, director, with Miss Paulsen as assistant. The children are now busily engaged in the work of the Christmas term. Unfortunately the rolls are sadly depleted owing to the epidemic pf measles. The work of the Mothers’ Club received special mention by council members, During the month special efforts had been made to raise funds by Taranaki Street Club, Ngaio and Petone. Final reports were not to hand of the result of these efforts, but it was understood that they had all been very successful. During the present month the United Mothers’ Club will hold a copper trail on Lainbton Quay, this being one of the last efforts of the year.
