MANY MOURNERS

Funeral of Mr. J. C. Russell Some hundreds of mourners attend; ed the funeral yesterday morning of the kite Jlr. J, C. Rugsell, formerly superintendent of the overhead equipment and permanent way of the Wellington city tramways. Before leaving for the cemetery at Karori, a short (service was conducted by the Rev. J. R. Blanchard at the mortuary chapel in Taranaki Street, which could not accommodate all who would have liked to attend. The chief mourner was the widow. At the chapel the pall bearers were Messrs. M. Cable . (general manager, Tramway Department), G. Lauchlan (assistant, general manager and distributing engineer), R. O. Petersen (assistant general manager and chief accountant), li. Norton Taylor (chief clerk), H. Leah (rolling stock superintendent), and D. McGillivray (traffic manngcr). .Those who performed a similar duty at the graveside were Messrs. F. Malcolm, P. R. Baillie, J. Hogan, W. Mitchell/P. Watson, W. R. Shorland, and A. Grenside. Among those present were the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Or. W.-H. Bennett, Messrs. E. P. Norman (town clerk), G. A. Hart (pity engineer), R. S. Maunder (assistant electrical engineer), R. G. Huggins (first senior station engineer), R. A. Hamerton (formerly permanent way engineer), JHogan (permanent way overseer), ,W. O. Bock (sub-accountant, electric lighting department), F. Marchant, Percy Watson, A. Laurie, K. E. Luke, M. Casey. L. Drake (chief traffic inspector), F. R. Lockie (city solicitor’s department), P. McColl (formerly chief station engineer), J. R. Palmer (formerly town clerk), J. Pearce Luke, J E. F. Perry (formerly assistant librarian),- and J.. Roach. There were also large representations from the permanent way, overhead, and station staffs of the Tramways Department the city engineer's department, the Corporation yards, reserves, and other branches of the municipal service.
