SLANDER ALLEGED

Husband and Wife Sued CLAIM FOR DAMAGES Trespass, assault and slander were alleged in a case in the Supreme Court yesterday brought by Frances Isobel Triplow, wife of Francis Janies Triplow. Hutt Road, Lower Hutt, against William Carter. Kiwi Street, Lower Hutt, waterside worker, and Nellie Carter, his wife. The case was heard before Mr. Justice Blair, and was adjourned until to-day. Plaintiff claimed against William Carter £lO for alleged trespass, and £2OO for alleged slander; and claimed against both defendants 10/6 for medical expense, £lO for alleged trespass, £5O for alleged assault, and £4OO for alleged slander. Mr. A. B. Sievwright appeared for plaintiff, Mr. C. R. Barrett for Mrs. Carter, and Mr. J. Hanna for Mr. Carter. Tbe claim was that on July 11 last Mrs. Carter trespassed on plaintiff's property, assaulted her. and accused her of improper conduct with Mrs. Carter's husband while Mrs. Carter was on a visit to England. It was also alleged that on the same day William Carter made a slanderous statement in regard to the conduct of the plaintiff and himself. The defence was a denial of trespass and assault, and an assertion that the words used in certain paragraphs of the statement of claim were true in substance and fact.
