CHRISTMAS TRAVEL

Inter-Island Services HOLIDAY ITINERARIES Special sailings arranged to meet the demands of Christmas travellers this year in the Lyttelton, Nelson, and Picton ferry services are very similar to those of last year. Christmas bookings are now coming in, and it is anticipated that there will be a slight increase on the last two years, which have been well below previous years, in the number of people travelling over the holidays. In the Wellington-Lyttelton service there will; following the procedure of the last two years, be no daylight trips, and there will be no extra trips in this service. The Union Company does not anticipate a very considerable-traflic increase over that of last year, and in view of the fact that the Rangatira carries approximately 300 more passengers than did the Maori, the company considers that tffie Wahine and Rangatira can, on their ordinary timetable running, cope with the holiday rush. Wellington-Nelson, In the 'Wellington-Nelson service there will be extra sailings on Saturday, December 23, and Wednesday, December 27. Tlie Arahura, which has been laid-up at Nelson during the winter months owing to the slackness in the passenger traffic, will resume her running from Wellington on Thursday, November 23, after having slipped here for cleaning and pointing, in place of the Matangi, while that vessel goes on the Patent Slip. The Matangi will resume from here on Saturday, November 25. The Arahura, which will arrive here on Saturday, November 25. will remain here over frhe week-end, leaving on Monday, November 27, for Nelson in place of the Kaitoa, and will maintain the normal service with the Matangi until Saturday, December 23. On that date there will be two sailings from both Wellington and Nelson. The Matangi will leave here at 1.15 p.m. for Nelson, leaving there again at 11 p.m. for Wellington, and arriving here on the morning of Sunday, December 24. The Arahura will make a daylight trip from Nelson, leaving there at 9 a.m., and leaving Wellington again at 7.30 p.m. that day. On Sunday and Monday, Christmas Day, there will be no sailings from either Wellington or Nelson, but on Tuesday, Boxing Day, the usual timetable will be maintained. On Wednesday, December '27, the Arahura will make a daylight trip to Nelson, leaving 'Wellington at 8.30 a.m., while the Matangi will make a daylight crossing to Wellington, leaving Nelson at 7.30 a.in. The Matangi will leave ■Wellington again ah 7,30 p.m. that day, while the Arahura will leave Nelson at 7.30 p.m. for and thereafter the normal timetable will be run until Monday, January 1. On that clay the Matangi will leave Wellington at midnight, and the Arahura will leave Nelson at midnight. Picton Service.

The Tamahine, in the Picton service, will make additional sailings. Her timetable from Wednesday, December 20, until after the New Year will be as follows Leave Wellington, Wednesday, December 20, 2.45 p.m.; Friday, December 22. 1 p.m. and 11 p.m.; Saturday, December 23, 1.15 p.m.; Tuesday, December 26, midnight; Wednesday, December 27, 5 p.m.; Friday, December 29, 2.45 p.m.; Saturday, December 30, 1.15 p.m.; Tuesday, January 2, noon; Wednesday, January 3, 2.45 ip.m.; and thereafter in her usual summer timetable.

Leave Picton: Thursday, December 21, 2.45 p.m.; Friday, December 22, G p.m.; Saturday, December 23, 7 a.m.; Sunday, December 24, 2.45 p.m.; Wednesday, December 27, 7 a.m.; Thursday, December 28, 2.45 p.m.; Friday, December 29, 9 p.m.; Sunday, December 31, G p.m.; Tuesday, January 2, G p.m.; Thursday, January 4, 2.45 p.m.; and thereafter her normal summer running. Additional trips to Picton will be made bv. the Wahine on Tuesday, December 2G, and the Rangatira ou Dion, day, January 1. On those dates the Wahine and Rangatira will make excursion trips to Picton, leaving Wellington at 8 a.m: each day and Pieton at 2.30 p.m., arriving back at Wellington about 5.30 p.m. An excursion from Picton to Wellington will also be made by the Tamahine on Wednesday, December 27, the vessel leaving. Picton at 7 a.m. and Wellington ati 5 p.m. on the return trip. The Tamahine’.s summer timetable, which this year' will commence just after the New Year, will, be as follows: Leave Wellington, ' Dlonday, Wednesday, Friday, 2.45 p.m.: Saturday. 1.15 p.m. Leave Picton, Tuesday, Thursday, 2.45 p.m.- Friday, 9 p.m.; Sunday, G p.m.
