“SPLENDID EFFORT”
Salvation Army Self-denial Fund At a meeting of Salvationists held last night in the Vivian Street citadel, presided over by Commissioner J. Cunningham, the amounts raised by the various divisions in the annual selfdenial effort were made known amid much enthusiasm. When the territorial total of £20,913 was announced there was jubilation, as this was more than £25 over the amount raised last year. The commissioner expressed gratitude to God for this splendid result, saying that it was an evidence that the people of New Zealand recognised the value of the Army to the community, and were standing by it to the limit of their ability. He warmly thanked all who had helped to raise this amount. Colonel Orsborn, the chief secretary, spoke in optimistic vein, saying that the annual self-denial effort of the Array was a great reviver of compassion, and that the money given would help the Army to continue its ministry of help to the needy. The figures are set out in detail on page S.
