SWIMMING SEASON

Opening on December 9 MEETING OF CENTRE At the annual meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last night, it was decided to hold the opening of the season on December 9. with the same programme as in previous years. Mr. McCartney was in the chair. r >■ „<■ Mr P Coira expressed satisfaction at the way’ in which the centre had functioned last season. The educational side, in suite of the difficulties with which the centre had been faced, had been in a very healthy state. Regarding tepid baths, he said, tlie argument had been put forward that they didn’t pay; that, however, applied also to other branches of the City Council’s activities. Taking into consideration the benefits bestowed on the community by bath facilities, even if they did not come out on the right side financially. there was compensation in another direction. Mr. Coira’s remarks were endorsed by other delegates. Officers for the year were elected, as follow :—President, Mr. I. Duncan : vicepresidents. Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes. Hon. R. Masters, the Mayor- (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop), and Messrs. R. Semple. M.P. W. A. Dickson. V. Riddiford, D. McKenzie. and A. A. Stitchbury; chairman, Mr. W. Gerrie: local officer,: Mr.-V. Allen; educational officer. Mr. 11. R. Fisher; hon. auditor, Mr. W. G. Morpeth; hon. secretary, Mr. N. N. Oldershaw; hon. treasurer, Mr. R. C. Bradshaw: delegate to the N.Z.A.S.A., Mr. B. O’Neill; hon. medical officer, Dr. J. M. Twhigg: executive committee, Messrs. W. Gerrie. N. N. Oldershaw, R. C. Bradshaw, N. McCartney, C. E. Claridge. and W. Look; handicapper, Mr. K. Mclntyre: water polo sub-committee. Messrs. B. Mclvor, C. E. Claridge, and W. Gerrie: tepid ba.ths subcommittee. Messrs. H. R. Fisher, N. McCartney, W. Gerrie. A. A. Jenkins, and P. Coira. Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs. McCartney and Look, the retiring chairman and treasurer respectively, for their good work for the centre. The secretary was instructed to write to the clubs asking for a donation in view of the centre’s financial position, : It was decided to write to Mr. K.
