Petone Club’s Opening Match The weather conditions on Saturday were quite good for the Petone club’s first shoot of the season over the long ranges, and some good scores were registered. At intervals, however, the light right wind would flick around to the left, often trapping the unwary marksman who failed to pay constant attention to the flags. The competition counted for the long range series and the LongfieJd aggregate. At 800 yards there were some particularly good cards, the top score being obtained by W. M. Jackson. Who finished with 4 “bulls” for 49. He was closely followed by E. Ballinger with 48 and T. B. Richards, AV. 11. Ballinger and R. C. Barkle with 47 each. At 900 yards T. W- Warburton shot very well to make a total of 48, his two “inliers” just missing the black ring. T. B, Richards was next with 47, followed by R. 11. Nicholl .with 45. The feature of the day’s shooting was the performance of T. B. Richards (a C grade shot last season) who finished the day with an aggregate of 94 off the gun. four points better than the clnb standard for these ranges. He was followed by T. W. Warbui'ton with 93. and W. H. Ballinger, E Ballinger and AV. Currie with 91 each.

Next Saturday the first shoot for the club championship will be held over 300 and 500 yards, the shoot also counting for the short range scries and the Lonfield aggregate. Karori Club The Karori. club fired a practice shoot of ten shots at 800 yards and seven shots at 900 yards, at Trentham on Saturday. President 11. T. Marshall was in charge. Three new members were enrolled At 800 yards J. McKelvie led the way with a good 48, missing the bull for a magpie with his tighth shot. At 900 yards K.
