PRESIDENT RETIRES
—..-0. — Importers’ Federation The first meeting of the newlyelected council of the Wellington Importers’ Association on Friday elected Mr. A. Leslie Wall president in succession to Mr. Edwin Salmond. Mr. Salmond held the joint offices of president of the New Zealand Importers’ Federation and president of the Wellington association during the past year, and retired from .the presidency of the association at his own request. He was accorded a vote of thanks by the members, who placed on record their endorsement of his executive actions during the past year, and in particular his activities in opposition to the high exchange policy. Mr. W. E. Jackson was elected vicepresident for the forthcoming year, and.the following were elected chairmen of the various sub-committees of the council: Messrs. C. W. Mack (Customs), Edwin Salmond (Parliamentary), C. S. McNulty (propaganda), R. G. Buckleton (claims). In addition, a sub-committee was formed to prepare a case for reductions on inward shipping freights from the United Kingdom.
