RESERVE BANK BILL
Suggested Amendment IMPORTERS’ OPINIONS At the first meeting yesterday of the newly-elected council of the Wellington Importers’ Association, two motions were carried expressing opinions regarding the establishment of a Central Reserve Bank. They were as follow: —■ “That this association approves of the principle of a Central Reserve Bank as an addition to the financial strength of the Dominion, but urges Parliament to amend the measure now before it to ensure that such an institution shall be absolutely free from political control from its inception. “That the Government should seek the decision of the Supreme Court on matters at issue regarding the valuation of gold reserves to be taken over from the banks.” PUBLIC MEETING Large Attendance Expected It is anticipated that there will be a very large attendance at the meeting called for noon on Monday at the Town Hall to discuss the subject “The Reserve Bank and Dangers Involved.” The speakers will lie Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., Mr. A. R. Atkinson, and Mr. Stronach Paterson. Mr. A. de B. Brandon will preside.
