OBITUARY

Mr. H. Shaw Mr. Harry Shaw, late of Penrose Street, Lower Hutt, died on Friday morning after a long illness. Born in England 69 years ago, Mr. Shaw came out to New Zealand at an early age, and at the age of 23 was an original member of the Torpedo Corps of Wellington, with whom he served for a number of years, being present at the Shelley Bay explosion. Although over 50 years of age at the time of enlistment, Mr. Sliaw saw active service with the Eleventh Contingent of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and his fatal illness was the culmination of many years of suffering from the after effects of his overseas service. After his return Mr. Shaw was associated as au engineer with General Motors, Ltd., aud then up to the time of his last illness with the C. and A. Odlin Co., Ltd., Wellington. Although of a retiring disposition he had a large number of friends, particularly in boating circles, who will remember him for his great enthusiasm and skill in constructing small pleasure craft and models. The late Mr. Sliaw leaves a widow and one son, Alex., who resides in Auckland. Mr. F. McG. O’Connor Tiie death occurred at Masterton on Wednesday of Mr. Fergus McGarry O’Connor, at tlie age of 71 years, states a “Dominion” Special Service message. The late Mr. O'Connor was born at Greytown, where he was apprenticed to the printing trade by the “Wairarapa Standard.” Upon taking up his residence in Masterton over 50 years ago, he worked at his trade at the “Wairarapa Daily Times,” and later at the “Star.” which was subsequently taken over by the “Wairarapa Age" Company. In his younger days the late Mr. O’Connor was a keen cricketer and footballer, being a member of tlie Greytown club iu 18S0. Later he played for the old Masterton club. He hurl been living in retirement for about 25 years, and is survived by a widow ami one son and one daughter. There are also five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Oue son was drowned at Castlepoint some years ago. Dr. A. S. Brewis The death has occurred of Dr. Andrew Seymour Brewis, aged 68 years, a leading citizen of Hamilton, reports a Press Association message. He had a distinguished war record, serving with the Medical Corps in Egypt, France, and England. He was in charge at Sling Camp for a time, and also was senior medical officer in charge of the Now Zealand Rifle Brigade at Brockton. He retired in 1920.
