Yesterday’s Proceedings

The principal case presented to tlie Tariff Commission yesterday was an application by Mr. A. W. Hawley, on behalf of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Ltd.. England, (hat the British preferential tariff on motor vehicles, spare parts, service and garage equipment, rubber tires and i ulies and marine inboard engines manufactured in the United Kingdom and having a British Empire content of a minimum of 75 per cent, of labour and/or materials, be adjusted so as to permit free entry into New Zealand. Representations were also made to the commission in respect to imports of hosiery and knitwear from the United Kingdom, a general reduction of duties being asked for: in respect to iron and steel piping, insulating and wood-fibre board and carbonic acid gas.
