Naval Training in N.Z. (From “The Dominion,” November 4, 1908.) In the House of Commons, the Undersecretary for the Colonies, Colonel Seeley, . replying to Mr. J. B. Lonsdale (Unionist member for Mid-Armagh), declared that he was anxious to facilitate New Zealand’s wished with regard to acquiring an Imperial vessel for naval training purposes. He was again communicating with the Admiralty on the matter. The crack garrison artillery company of New Zealand-Petone Navals went through their first-class firing series' at Fort Kelburne, Ngahauranga. yesterday morning, and (with a splendid previous record of their own to eclipse) did some fine shooting. The range was 4300 yards, 12 rounds, and the results gave the gunners 100 per cent, of hits. Iu connection with the opening of die Main Trunk line, about 110 invitations have been issued to those who will comprise the party leaving Auckland. These include the members and secretary of the council of the Railways League, members and secretary of tlie council of die Auckland Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor and members of the Auckland City Council, chairman, secretary, and engineer of the Auckland Harbour Board, the exMayors of Auckland and suburbs, the foreign consuls, and the Auckland provincial members of both Houses of Parliament.
