BEARD CAUSES DIVORCE SUIT.

A Paris divorce court has been asked to consider the question whether the growing of a beard by a man constitutes cruelty to his wife. Alternatively, it is asked to state whether or not the length of a beard should be controlled. zY woman engaged in business has applied for divorce on the ground that her husband has an enormous beard. She declares that it makes him such an object of ridicule that she dislikes being seen abroad in his company. After she had been made to realise clearly that her husband would not sacrifice the beard, even for her, she suggested a compromise. She would be satisfied, she said, if he would reduce its length by halt. If divorce cannot be granted on the ground of cruelty, the wife claims that her husband’s attitude at least justified a plea of incompatibility of temperament. The couple have wparated, and pending a decision, the husband is to pay his wife £2/10/- a week.
