Result of Mild Winter
“Not only is the fishing good in the Wellington district,” said Mr. E.'Wiffin, secretary of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, yesterday, “but according ti> reports it is good throughout New Zealand. That is chiefly due to the mild winter.
“When I say mild winter, I do not intend to convey that last winter was not very cold here. Cold does not matter so much. What does matter tire severe floods in the rivers and streams. These carry away a great, deal of the natural food of trout, food that is not readily replaced. Then if the floods come late in the season they are likely to play havoc with any fry which may have been released.
“We have just completed the liberation of the last of our fry for this season. These fry we secured-,from Southland, where the season is six weeks or two months behind us here. That gives us the chance of liberating them in weather conditions that should favour their establishment in our stream.”
