CROSS-COUNTRY RUN

Technical College Teams Race OLYMPIC HARRIERS CUP Seddon House yesterday won the Olympic Harriers -Cup for cross-country teams racing among the pupils of Wellington Technical College. The three events, which started and finished at the Basin Reserve, were held during the afternoon in sunny weather. Wilding House was second, Wakefield House third, and Bowen House fourth. This is the third annual race for the trophy presented by the Olympic harriers. Before the start, Mr. J. Perston, president of the club which gave the cup, and a harrier himself, addressed the runners, giving the boys some hints on teamwork in cross-country running. The principal, masters and" pupils of the college were present Three races were run—junior, intermediate and senior. Each of the four houses was represented in the junior race by a team of ten and in the other races by teams of six. The numerical order of each boy’s finishing counted the same number of points for his team in the race, and a grand total was made to find the winners of the cup. The differences in the sizes of the teams was adjusted by calculation. The juniors’ course was from the Basin Reserve, up Pirie Street, through the Pirie Street Reserve, up a diagonal path to the ridge of Mount Victoria, southward along the ridge to the pine tree plantation and down to Pirie Street to the finish. The seniors and intermediates ran almost the same course to the ridge and then followed it southward to the hospital, went down Hospital Road, up John Street, down Wallace Street and Taranaki Street, and over Buckle Street to the finish. The results were as follows— Juniors: Wakefield House, 165 points, 1; Wilding House, 190 points, 2; Seddon House, 228 points, 3 ; Bowen House, 236 points, 4. Intermediates: Seddon House, 56 points, 1; Wilding House, 62} pointe, 2; Wakefield House, 86J points, 3; Bowen House, 94 points, 4. Seniors: Seddon House, 39 points, 1: Wilding House, 64 points, 2; Wakefield House, 96 pointe, 3; Bowen. House, 101 points, 4. Totals: Seddon House, 231.8 points, 1; Wilding House, 240.5 points, 2; Wakefield House, 281.5 points, S; Bowen House, 336.6 points, 4.
