BOTTOM REACHED

Shipbuilding Slump

London, October 31,

Lloyd’s Register shipping report says that an indication that the bottom of the shipbuilding slump has already been reached is found in the fact that world tonnage laid up has fallen from 15,000,000 to 12,000,000 chiefly due to scrappings. It may be assumed by 1034 that the available world tonnage will have fallen to the 1027 level of 65,000,000, compared xvith 70,000,000 in 1931. The figures for new orders to September 30, 1933, have materially increased compared with the same quarter of 1032.
