The panoramic beauty of the Johore Straits is seared where the tropical sunlight catches the mass of conCrete. v The completion of the gigantic task, which to date has Involved dredging five million cubic yards of sand and utilised a million yards of. concrete and a quarter of a million yards or granite, will mean that British interests in the Far East will be well nigh unassailable. , „ Although faced with serious outbreaks of malaria and losing hundreds of coolies and using mainly unskilled Asiatic labour, the engineers are well ahead of schedule.
