SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Mr. Andersen Tyrer, the famous English pianist, is to be associated with t ie Wellington Symphony Orchestra m the Town Hall to-night. This performance will be under the conductorship of Mr. Leon do Mutiny, founder and first director of the orchestra. Mr. Tyrer is familiar with all the great concert platforms of Europe, aud has been described bv Ernest Newman, the doyen of British musical critics, as “the high Priest of polish in pianoforte playing”; and those who are familiar with the London concert world will know that Ernest Newman does not bestow his plaudits lightly. Mr. Tvrer’s items are piano concertos by Liszt (No. 2, in A Major), and Arensky. Mrs. Wilfred Andrews will in addition sing operatic airs, including the popular “Softly Awakes My Heart.” The purely orchestral numbers will be Beethoven s briefest and happiest symphony, .the “Eighth,” Wagner’s stirring “Rienzi” overture, and Massenet’s well-known “Scenes' Bittoresques.”
