Reformative Detention TERM OF THREE YEARS By Telegraph,—Press Association. Auckland, November 1. John Shaw Gordon, found guilty of assaulting his wife so as to cause bodily harm, nnd of attempting suicide, was sentenced to-dny to three years’ reformative detention. His Honour Mr. Justice Smith said he was nob satisfied that the accused and his wife were living happily, and he suspected that there were motives for the man’s action. There was no proof of insanity, though perhaps his action was queer. - He wna not a fit subject to be at liberty. It was difficult to Impose sentence on a man of 68 when he had never before been before the court, but it was clear that he might be a danger to bis wife, and he had expressed no regret.
