In stepping out of the engine pit at Thorndon Railway Station early yesterday afternoon, Mr. E. R. Leatbam, 1 Iwi Street, Ngalo, dislocated his right knee. He was taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance. In order, to give the Rotary Club the opportunity of raising money for Its Christmas fund, ex-Rotafian H. Vickerman has presented, the club with au enormous box of chocolates, over two feet in length, which is to be disposed of to benefit the Sunshine Fund. The street collection taken up in the city yesterday in aid of the funds of the Salvation Army realised £2OO. as against £167 collected last year. The headquarters staff of the organisation last night expressed its thaiiks to all who had -so generously contributed. The District Engineer of the Public Works Department stated yesterday that neither of the two returned soldiers’ relief <jpmps at Paraparaumu were in any way involved in the strike which was made recently by the single men at the main road relief workers’ camp at Paraparaumu. Knocked down bv a motor-cycle in Jackson Street, Petone, early last evening, an elderly woman, Mrs. K. Stewart, had her right collarbone fractured and received scalp wounds and slight concussion. After attention from Dr. Donald, she was taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance. The examination, season in Wellington will begin to-day with the University examinations, which will extend over the period between November 1 and 20. The matriculation and entrance examinations will begin on December 1 and" last until December 12. The dates of other examinations are as follow: —Intermediate, November 21 to 30; Training College entrance examination, November 21 to 24; technological examination, November 27 to Decembers.
