Petone Club Opens Season The Pctonc Rifle Club opened its season at Trentham on Saturday with a match between teams chosen by President W. J. Mclver and Deputy-President T W. Warburton, the ranges being 300 and 500 yards. The weather was fine, a fairly strong north-west wind adding to the difficulties that had to be contended with. • There was a fair attendance, and, although only one member reached the club standard, 11. L. Rule with 94. some good range scores were registered. Three new members fired, and registered satisfactory scores. At 300 yards H. L. Rule topped the scoring with a good 48 out of the possible 50. followed by T. McNab and T. Chapman 47 each. H. Nickless 46, E. Ballinger, W. J. Mclver, and A. Ballinger 45 each. At 500 yards the wind proved more difficult, and the shooting did. not reach the usual high standard for this distance. Top score was registered by E. Ballinger with 47. followed by H. L. Rule and O. Pedersen 46 each, H. iNickless 45. The best aggregate was secured by H. L. Rule with 94, followed by E. Ballinger 92, H. Nickless 91,'T. McNab 90. The team match resulted in a win for President W. J. Mclver's team, with a total of 840, as against 832. Next Saturday the club competition shooting will commence, when the first match for the short range handicap series will be fired, ranges 300 and GOO yards.
Karori Club The Karori club fired a practice shoot over 300 and 500 yards at Trentham on Saturday. Shooting conditions were not the best, and the wind, which was quite strong at times, came in from 5 o'clock. Pres. H. T. Marshall was in charge, and during the afternoon a new member, C. Clark, was enrolled. As expected, shooting was not of a high standard, W. Andrews’s 43 at 300 being the highest score. At 500 yards, K. Gjllstrom followed up a 42 with a 45, which placed him at the head of the list.
