BULLER BY-ELECTION
Attitude of Government NOT YET DETERMINED The Government’s attitude toward contesting the Buller seat, made vacant by the death of the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. H. E. Holland, has not yet been determined. As has already been Indicated, the choice of a Labour candidate is expected to lie between Mr. P. C. Webb, who held the seat before Mr. Holland’s election in 1918, and Mr. Roy Holland, a son of the late leader of the party. • Whether the Government will oppose the Labour candidate Is a question which will be largely decided by Coalition supporters within the electorate. Influential members of the Government in Wellington do not seem anxious to enter upon another campaign in the middle of an important session, and although it Is impossible to make any definite statement at the moment there is some reason to believe that Mr. Holland’s successor may be allowed to take the seat by default.
