FILM KISSES
Remarkable Time-table What la surely one of history's most unusual time-tables has recently made its appearance in Hollywood, says a Vancouver paper. With the help of a stop-watch, and a good friend on the Inside in matters of film technique, some indefatigable searcher after movie publicity has compiled a timetable of the duration of the various types of kisses, reduced by Hollywood to an accurate science. Here it is: — The clinging kiss, four seconds for foreign audiences; as long as forty for American.
The platonic kiss, respectfully touched to the brow, one second. The Latin kiss. Tender love, three seconds; dutiful, half second; joyous return, three aud clinch. Relations, one-fourth second. Except rich uncles and aunts, two. In-laws: Mother, swift peck; father, half second ; sisters, one; brothers, one and a half; stepfathers, doubtful peck. Stepmother more doubtful. Strictly social, between rashionaple women, one second, with two to wipe off lip-stick. Dear old Charlie or good old Martha, two seconds. Dutiful matrimonial, one-fourth second peck. Even this time-table has to suffer serious revision at the hand of foreign censors, who demand that Hollywood kisses in their undiluted form shall be suitably abbreviated before they ap pear before their publics.. In Japan even the “cool brow kiss' is not approved, and nine hundred pictures a year are turned out in that country without any kisses at all.
