CANADA’S POPULATION.

The latest Canadian census figures rereal the fact that, out of the total there are only 5,381.071 people of British stock. It is true that the TJritlrth Canadians arc stUI in a majority. They constitute 51.86 per cent; of the total population, but this compares with 55.40 per cent, ten years ago. and 57.3 per cent, at the beginning cf the century.

At this rate the numerical preponderance of the British elements will soon disappear. It is interesting to note how the Dominion’s percentage of British stock in made up. There are just over twice as many Englishmen as Scots, and thirteen of the latter to every twelve Irishmen.
