NEW AGREEMENT
Use of the Basin Reserve TERMS TO CRICKETERS Details of a new agreement entered into with the Wellington Cricket Association for the use of the Basin Reserve were given by .Cr. J. Burns at last evening’s meeting of the City Council. Concessions had been made, he said, not so much in the way of financial relief, but in the way of improved facilities. The association, he said, asked for a four-year lease Instead of a threeyear one as previously. A very good reason was given for this, and that was, like all sports bodies, the cricket association had lean and good years, due to the appearance of representative teams, and having a three-year term unbalanced the association’s finances. This had been granted. ’ The other concession was a slight reduction in gate percentages. The arrangement made was that the association pay 15 per cent, of all gross outside gate and 20 per cent, of stand enclosure takings. Two admission charges only wfere to be made, outside gate and stand enclosure or inside gate, the latter charge to include admission to the grandstand. I Although it had been felt that the cricket association was deserving of recognition in the matter of reduced charges, it was found impossible to make any concessions in this respect. He was much afraid that before next financial year there would have to be a general review of the present arrangements between the council and the various sporting bodies.
