BRITISH LIVE STOCK
Move for Protection of Industry LEVY SCHEME REJECTED Loudon, September 13. The “Evening Standard” says that the Meat Reorganisation Commission rejected the proposal of a levy of Id a pound on all imported meat to yield £9,000,000 annually, wherewith to ensure the British farmers a guarantee price of 48/- a-cwt. for-cattle and 56/-for sheep. The reason for the rejection is that the proposal would conflict with the Ottawa agreements. The Farmers’ Union has now asked the Ministry to impose an immediate cut of 55 per cent, in Imports in order to save the live stock industry.
