General Business
The Wellington City Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. T, C. A. Hislop, presiding. Also present were: -Councillors W. H. Bennett,' W. J, Gaudin, L. McKenzie, W- Duncan, T. Forsyth, J. Burns, H. A. Huggins, M. F. Luckie, P’Butler, R. McKeen, M.P., R. Semple, M.P., and T. Brindle.- • • » Improvements are to be effected to the lighting in Apuka Street. ’ A high-level footpath is to be forme’d at Awa Road, subject to propertyowners contributing £3, which is half of the cost of the material required. The portion of Hungerford Road between View Road and Queen’s Drive is to be taken over as a public street. » • * Requests from municipal croquet clubs for reduction in the rental of £25 per season charged for the use of each croquet lawn were, not acceded to. ♦ ♦ • Tenders are to be called for the formation of a paddling pool at the Ngaio Reserve, and, the work put in hand subject to the Ngaio Progressive Association defraying the cost. The Libraries Committee recomihended that the Libraries Department , be exempted from the payment of rent, rates, and loan charges on the Miramar Public Hall. Councillor Luckie said it was the thin end of the wedge to get similar exemptions in future. . On the suggestion of the Mayor the chairman of the committee, Cr. W. J. Gaudin, agreed to take the recommendation back to the committee.
An offer to purchase 16 lots at Homebush Estate, subject to the work of loading, providing sewer extensions, storm-water drainage, and water supply being put in hand immediately, which had been received by the Works Committee, was declined, the matter- being left open for the present.
