LIGHT CARS POPULAR
In Great Britain the popularity of cars of about 10 h.p. still continues. For the last six months of 1932 saies of cars up to 10 h.p. in that country numbered 41,777 against 31,937 for higher-powered cars. Probably high taxation and the need for economy are the main causes for this trend. The vehicles of the “baby” type (750 c.c.) and the 1100 c.c. class, which covers machines with engines in the neighbourhood of 10-12 h.p., also are popular in the Dominions, Since the advent of these smaller types there has been an amazing development in the efficiency of the power units. A. striking illustration of this is the handicap speeds set for the important 500-mile international car race held annually at Brooklands track, England. The 750 c.c. or baby cars are set an average speed of 92.2 m.p.h. for the full distance, and the 1100 c.c. class 104.8 m.p.h.
