DEATH OF DETECTIVE

Recent Nervous Collapse By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, September 14. The death occurred in tragic circumstances this morning of Detective-Ser-geant Edward F. O’Brien. Mr. O’Brien, who suffered a nervous collapse recently, had 'been on leave since Tuesday. He was found dead this morning in the bathroom of his home with a wound in the throat. He joined the Force in 1911, and served with the Rifle Brigade in Egypt and France. Subsequently he rejoined the Force in Auckland, and became a detective in 1922, being transferred to Christchurch in 1927. In recent weeks he had been pursuing investigations in rhe shooting case at Addington Station.
