SUPPLY OF ORANGES
Small Australian Shipment SOUTHLAND DISAPPOINTED By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, August 31. : - Keen disappointment is expressed by local fruit merchants at the small allocation of South Australian orang.-.., for Southland. The Waikouaiti, which berthed at Bluff to-day from Sydney, brought 3000 cases, but only 449 arefor Southland. This is a much smaller quotg than was anticipated, and the action of the Government in Imposing restrictions on the quantity allowed to be Imported from South Australia is being criticised here. “Why the Government wants to restrict imports of oranges from South Australia now that the fly bogey has been exterminated is not at all clear," said Mr. Frank Bray, Southland executive member of the New Zealand Fruit, and Produce Auctioneers and Importers’ Association. He added: “There is a great deal about these embargoes and restrictions which requires much fuller and less equivocal explanation than the Minister has so far condescended to give.” -.
