Interference Proved HOUSEHOLDER FINED A conviction was entered'by Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday against. Leonard Owen Bellett, who was charged with stealing electri-city-valued at under £2, the property of the Wellington City Corporation, and with doing electrical wiring work without a license. At the conclusion of the case, which was started last Friday, the magistrate said he thought that, taking the whole of the circumstances together, the only reasonable.and legitimate explanation was that defendant had set out to steal electricity. On the first charge defendant was fined £lO/and on thesecond he was ordered to pay costs, 16/-. ■ • 1 Evidence showed that defendant, who was represented by Mr. A. L. Rollings, had, used a shunt to cut out the meter at bis residence, but, as a result of the way the switchboard was wired, it showed reverse readings. Mr. J. Lockie. for the corporation,’spoke of the difficulty of sheeting the charge home, and asked for a substantial penalty, not only because this defendant deserved it, but also to act as a deterrent to others.
