The seventh round of the B grade competition has to be accounted for by next Saturday, and the following matches have therefore been arranged for this week: — Miramar C.C.. v. Brooklyn F.8.C.0.; Wellington C.C. No. 1 ,v. Karori C.C.; Wellington No. 2 v. Victoria University College; Hutt Valley C.C. v. 'Wellington W.M. Club and Literary Institute. Purclias Memorial Match. Next Friday it will be a year since the death of Mr! D. Turchas, a prominent player in the ‘Wellington and-South Wellington Chess Clubs, and a popular officebearer of both clubs. Shortly after his death a memorial match was played between these clubs, ex-members being invited to • take part. It ended in a win for the Wellington elub by four games (15-11). It is-proposed to play this year’s Purchas Memorial match, on Saturday, week', September 9. Wah-arapa v. Wellington. The annual fixture, Wairarapa v. Wbl- . lington,. is scheduled to take place at Greytown on the Saturday before Labour Day, October 21. This will be breaking new ground, as the previous matches have.been held either in Masterton or in Featherston. The organisers, Messrs. R. A. Godtschalk (Wellington) and. J. H. Kidd (Greytown), are working hard to. make this year’s match a great success. It is hoped to have 50 enthusiasts taking' part. International Team Tournament. The international team tournaineut of the World Chess Federation was held in. England this year, fifteen countries being represented. -The-, final .placing of the, teams was as follows: United States, 43 points: Czechoslovakia, 41i; Roland, Hungary and .Sweden, each 38; Austria, 374; Lithuania, 344; France, 32 ; Latvia, 31i; England, 31; Italy, 28i; Denmark, 26J; Iceland and Belgium,- each 21; and Scotland, 18. Germany, Russia, Spain; Argentina, and Estonia were not taking-part. ? ' The previous winners were: 1927, Hun-.-gary; 1930, Poland; 1931, United States., The last-named team, by its recent success l thus retains the Hamilton-Russell Qupi for a further, term. Each team consisted’, of four players. The best individual per-' formance was that of A. A. Alechine, the world’s champion, who played at board 1for France.
