FANCY DRESS BALL
Chateau Tongariro Event A gay throng was present on. Saturday night at the Chateau Tongariro, when the fancy-dress ball that concluded the winter sports programme w.as held. A Maori orchestra from Tokaanu played the latest dance music, interspersed with Maori melodies by the well-known singer Dean Whakatene. The huge lounge, with its comfortable chesterfields and chairs and polished dance floor, made an ideal place for such a party, quite three hundred being present. The Ruapehu Ski Club’s colours, of black and scarlet formed a striking canopy. Great difficulty was experienced in, awarding the prizes, so great was the variety and resourcefulness displayed in the dresses. The judges were the Hon. A. Hamilton and Mrs. Hamilton, Mrs. R. Cbbbe, and Mr. F. Lomas. The awards were: Best-dressed lady, Miss Rita Bassett (Early Victorian); best-dressed man, Mr. Bassett Smith (Early Victorian); most original lady, Miss Farrelly (scarecrow) ; most original man, Mr. H. Scully (Scotchman).
