RESERVES COMMITTEE

Acting-Chairman Elected COUNCILLOR J. BURNS At the first meeting of the Reserves Committee held yesterday morning, the initial duty was to elect a chairman in place of the late Councillor F. Meadowcroft. It was anticipated that there might be some difficulty iu making a decision over the appointment of a permanent chairman, as the office is one which concerns a big spending department of the council’s activities. The members of the Reserves Committee are Councillors IV. Duncan, L. McKenzie, J. Burns, R. Semple, R. McKeon and C. H. Chapman. It was a case of three official Labour members versus three councillors who are not Labour members. A deadlock was overcome by the temporary appointment as acting-chairman of Councillor J. Burns. The permanent chairman will be decided upon after the by-election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Councillor Meadowcroft.
