TO-DAY’S RUGBY GAMES
Poneke and Wellington Poneke, who have played their last few matches on suburban grounds, will reappear at Athletic Park to-day, when they are drawn to meet the improving Wellington team. Poneke always draw good crowds, and if the weather is favourable there should be a large attendance. To-day’s struggle will depend upon the forwards. Each team has a set of fast and capable backs, but which will field the winning pack is open to doubt. Poneke’s forwards have not measured to the usual standard this year, and the improvement which Wellington have shown lately in the forward division may be sufficient to turn the tide in their favour. Last week they scored well over Marist, who had beaten both Poneke and Petone. and they may surprise many by their effort to-day. They have the backs behind them to do the job if they can win in front. Poneke will be favourites, but their task is by no means an easy one.
College Old Boys, the present leaders in the competition, will meet Athletic at Newtown Park. Last week Athletic dronned an unlucky decision to Hutt by a single point, and Old Boys may find the opposing forwards a difficult proposition.
