To this the Prime Ministei, the Minister of Education, and representatives of the department, the education boards, the school committees, heads of churches and sister associations have been invited. In the afternoon there will he a motor outing, and in the evening a past-presidents’ dinner. The annual meeting will open on the following day, when there will be delivered the annual address by the president for the year (Mr. M. 1. Abel), and the reading of the Roll of Honour. A wreath will be placed on the War Memorial. In the evening a jubilee party will be given. The remainder of the week will be devoted to the business of the conferCHOC. On the last day, Mr. H. A. Parkinson will be given a farewell tea on the occasion of his retirement from the position of secretary of the institute. The New Zealand Educational Institute was founded in 1883, its first president being Mr. Henry Worthington. Prior to that there were associations of teachers, but these were independent bodies. Throughout the years many prominent figures in the New Zealand educational world have filled the presidential office. Among these were the late Mr. George Mogben. afterward Inspector-General of Schools. The annual meeting this year is also noteworthy from the fact that the president-elect for 1933-34 is a woman, Miss M. E. Magill, dip. Soc. Sc., now one of the vice-presidents. This Is the first occasion on which a woman has held the presidential office.
