Close of Season Parties

A very successful party was held in the Woburn pavilion on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the dosing of the croquet reason, Mrs. Monks, the president, in a short speech, spoke of the excellent progress made by members of the club during the season, and warmly welcomed the honorary members who were present. The presentation, b.y Mrs. Monks, ot trophies for winners of the season’s competitions. was as follows :—A grade championship : Mrs, Cleland; runner-up, Mrs. Monks, club’s ■ trophy. Intermediate championship: Mrs. Barker; runner-up, Mrs. Macintosh; winner’s trophy. Mrs. Jenness; trophy of runner-up, Mrs. Jones. B grade championship: Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Monk's trophy ; runnerup. Mrs. Lambert, Mrs. Barker’s trophy. Handicap singles: Mrs. Cleland, Mrs. Tambly’s trophy: runner-up, Mrs. Monks, club trophy. Handicap doubles: Mrs. Cleland and Mrs. Jamieson, bridge players’ cup and trophy; runner-up, Mesdames Barker and Sutcliffe. Mrs. Lambert’s trophies. Trophies for the afternoon’s competitions were donated by Mesdames Monks, W. C. Rowe, Coalman, Alexander, Cleland, Sutcliffe, Quin, and Jamieson. On behalf of the club, Mrs. Cleland presented Mrs. Monks (president) and Mrs. Rowe (secretary) with pieces of crystal, in recognition of their work during the season. Hutt Croquet Club The closing of the croquet season was celebrated at the Hutt Croquet Club's pavilion on Wednesday afternoon, when a delightful social afternoon was held. Mrs. W. Hendry, the club's president, in an appropriate speech, referred to the season’s activities, and welcomed the honorary members who were present. Mrs. Teagle, patroness of the club, presented Mrs. Hendry with a bouquet of dark crimson roses and maidenhair fern tied with the ribbons in the club colours. The competitions resulted as follow: — Golf croquet, Mrs. Passmore, runner-up, Mrs. Brooks; French croquet, Mrs. Bock, runner-up, Hendry ; hurry-scurry, Mrs. Wood and Hendry; break croquet, Mrs. Stonehouse, Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Bollard. The presentation of trophies for the year was as follows:— Championship, A grade: Mrs. Bock, runner-up, Mrs. 'King. Intermediate championship: Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Jenness. runner-up. Handicap event, A grade: Mrs. Boek, runner-up Mrs. Passmore. Intermediate: Mrs. Jenness, runner-up, Mrs. Yates. The trophies, which were mainly presented by members of the club, were particularly varied and acceptable.
